Book: Listening for God's Voice

Donna Collier Rickman is such a gifted writer who allows her readers to be totally in the midst of her books. I felt a genuine connection to the book because it details real life experiences that everyone can identify with. This book is truly God ordering her steps to heal herself and others. God Bless you Ms. Rickman.

Having read Donna's first book, I was looking forward to this one and was not disappointed. Regardless of a reader's mood, there is advice and consolation in the 21 alphabettically-arranged themes ranging from Loyalty to Perseverance to Sacrifice. She shares her personal experiences openly allowing the reader to identify their own life stories with hers. Intersperced with these narratives are her thoughtful and timely reflections on stories and passages from the Bible. As an added bonus, she ends the book with some of her carefully-crafted poetry on a wide range of topics. I am glad that I purchased her book and feel certain other readers will feel the same.

Book: Dance Daddy, Dance Like Duck!
Donna Collier Rickman’s children’s book, Dance, Daddy, Dance Like Duck, is a simple but delightful story about a four year old boy, a mechanical duck, and the love that binds extended family together. Drawing upon a real life situation that happened to her young grandson, it is obvious that Ms. Rickman is familiar with inter-generational family living as she is able to express in vivid detail the antics of a small boy, the care of a nurturing grandmother, and the joyous relationship of father and son. Children will easily relate with young Marcos as he anticipates his birthday celebration, helps his grandmother bake his cake, accompanies his aunt and uncle to the duck pond, finds his big wind-up duck birthday gift, and struggles when his daddy is too tired to play. The large uncluttered pastel drawings of this supportive Latino family make the book an easy read aloud book for adults to share with a child, and a book that small children will enjoy telling in their own words over and over again as they turn the pages by themselves and “read” the pictures aloud. Dance, Daddy, Dance Like Duck is a sensitive, believable and well written addition to children’s literature.

This is a sweet story, with charming illustrations, about a 4-year-old boy on his birthday, having a very special day with his family. His favourite thing is ducks; he loves them so much that he imitates them in all their actions. Yet when he asks his Daddy to join him in his birthday fun, he is temporarily disappointed.
This cute story shows how little ones cope with frustrations and how family love is best of all! It is evident the author has a love for and understanding of children to accompany her creative story-telling.

What a sweet story about a little boy, his birthday, and DUCKS. Donna Collier Rickman has captured the innocence and imagination of four-year-old Marcos as he enjoys his special birthday. The illustrations are well done and portray his family in a loving and caring home. Children will love to hear or read this story over and over because the ending will warm their hearts.
